School-based programs can get complicated quickly. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often about The Navis Group, our solutions and how we work with educational organizations.

About The Navis Group

The Navis Group helps schools and education organizations navigate the complex intersection of student services, health, documentation, compliance and funding. It brings together three solutions — Practi-Cal, Health-e-Kids and Charted — under one organization, built on more than 30 years of work alongside California schools.

Practi-Cal began in 2003, growing out of School Business Services of California, with a focus on school-based Medi-Cal. Over time the work expanded well beyond billing and reimbursement into documentation, compliance, special education and school-based health. Eventually the work had become bigger than one name. The Navis Group brings that experience together, and Practi-Cal continues as the solution it has always been.

No. They are three solutions within one organization. Each focuses on a different part of school-based work — reimbursement and compliance, student health, and special education. [VERIFY: confirm how to describe the legal and operational relationship.]

Finding the right solution

It depends on the work you are trying to manage. Practi-Cal supports California school-based Medi-Cal reimbursement, documentation and compliance. Health-e-Kids supports school-based health, Medicaid claiming, student health documentation and care coordination. Charted supports special education management, IEP development, service documentation and IDEA compliance. If you are not sure, our team can help you identify the right fit.

[HOLD — needs confirmation before publishing. Answer should explain how solutions address different needs within one organization without implying integrations or capabilities we have not verified.]

We work with school districts and local education agencies, county offices of education, charter schools and charter organizations, school-based health programs, and special education programs and teams. Within those organizations we support leadership, student and health services, special education, billing and reimbursement, compliance and administrative teams, and the educators and service providers working directly with students.

Working with us

[HOLD — needs product/program owner input: onboarding timeline, migration from an existing system, what the organization is responsible for, and what Navis handles.]

Our approach has always been personal. We do not believe support ends when someone gets a login. Our teams work alongside clients through implementation, training, changing requirements, difficult questions and the everyday realities of serving students. [VERIFY: add specifics on training format and support hours.]

Yes. Programs, requirements and reporting expectations change, and keeping up with them is part of the work we do alongside our clients. Our glossary and guides explain the terminology and programs in plain language, and our teams help organizations understand what changes mean for their own programs.

Getting started

Start a conversation with our team. We will talk through your organization, the programs you manage and what you are trying to accomplish, then help you identify which solution fits and what getting started would involve. You do not need to know which solution you want first.

Use the Schedule a Demo form and tell us a little about your organization and what you are looking for. A member of our team reviews every request and follows up by your preferred method, usually within two business days.

Still have a question?

Some questions are easier to answer in a conversation. Tell us a little about your organization and what you’re working through. We’ll help you figure out where to start.
